CG Community Foundation awards grants and scholarships

The Cottage Grove Community Foundation and special contributors awarded a total of $7,602 in Community Grants this year. Twelve grants were funded at $500 each and two grants at a lesser amount to the following organizations: Educational Grants

Dorena School: Refurbish soccer field and running track for PE and community use. Will provide Dorena School opportunity to host track events, $500 funded by the Cottage Grove Community Foundation Carlton Woodard Advised Fund. London School:

Purchase of riser for music classes and performances, $500 funded by the Cottage Grove Community Foundation Permanent Fund. Child's Way Charter School:

Science and Engineering Technology Education - Purchase of two Mindstorms NXT Robotics Kits for at-risk high school students for competition teams. Learned skills will be applied to real life situation, $500 funded by the Cottage Grove Community Foundation Permanent Fund. Harrison Elementary School:

Using Read Naturally Project, students kindergarten through second grade will work to improve their reading fluency , accuracy and comprehension, $500 funded by the Cottage Grove Community Foundation Joy Woodard Advised Fund. Civic Grants Cottage Theatre:

Purchase video projector for use of groups renting theatre and for use in theatre productions, $500 funded by Betty Wright. Social Service Grants CASA of Lane County:

Train community volunteers to advocate for abused children in court, $500 funded by the Believe in Angels Foundation. South Lane Wheels:

Send in-house trainer to CPR training and acquire in-house training materials, $500 funded by the Cottage Grove Community Foundation Carlton Woodard Advised Fund. Community Sharing Program:

Medical prescription assistance for single or married adults without children at home, $500 funded by the Believe in Angels Foundation. Community Sharing:

Purchase healthy snacks for children of adults attending LCC-ESL classes, $352 funded by the Believe in Angels Foundation . Family Relief Nursery:

Purchase video presentation projector to be used for community education presentations, parent education and feedback, $500 funded by the Cottage Grove Community Foundation Joy Woodard Advised Fund. Parent Partnership:

Assist furthering education of English Language Learners with books to be checked out and used at home, $500 funded by Betty Wright. Habitat for Humanity:

Purchase new tool portable shed or repair current tool trailer , $500 funded by the Cottage Grove Community Foundation Permanent Fund. Special Services

Grants Cottage Grove/Creswell Special Olympics Oregon:

Provide hotel expenses for Summer Games in Hillsboro on June 29-30 , $500 funded by the Cottage Grove Community Foundation Carlton Woodard Advised Fund. Humane Society of Cottage Grove:

Purchase educational supplies to distribute to second grade students as part of classroom presentations by Humane Soci- ety volunteers, $250 funded by the Cottage Grove Community Foundation Permanent Fund.

2007 Scholarships

The Cottage Grove Community Foundation and special contributors awarded the following 35 scholarships in June to deserving Cottage Grove, Creswell, North Douglas, and Yoncalla high school graduates. Four students who are in the nursing program also received a scholarship. Scholarships range from $250 to $1,500. The total amount awarded was $33,850 which is the largest amount provided in the six year history of scholarships from the Cottage Grove Community Foundation. The following four Cottage Grove High School graduates already attending college working toward a degree in nursing were recipients of renewed scholarships from the Foundation's Sumer Solesbee Nursing Scholarship Endowment Fund established by the Faye and Lucille Stewart Foundation:

Additionally scholarship funds from the CGCF Cottage Grove Rotary Endowment fund were awarded to Sydney Levings, Jennifer Frederick, and Rachel Stutzman by the Cottage Grove Rotary Club.
